Todd Lamb: “What a great weekend for the AMG team! I’m really fortunate to have the opportunity to work with such a dedicated and experienced crew. They really nailed the setup on the car and made my job easy in the driver’s seat.”
Lamb’s AMG teammate, Brett Smrz, qualified second for Saturday’s race before mechanical issues forced him to retire from the race. In Sunday’s race Smrz came through the field to finish 6th after contact from another car on the start.
AMG Team Owner, Jason Hoover: “We’re really pleased with our performance this weekend. Todd did a great job maximizing points for the championship. Brett (Smrz) had a great run through the field on Sunday, and for him it was a good learning experience that will pay off in future races. We’re disappointed that Bob (Michaelian) couldn’t make it due to flight cancellations. We’re already looking forward to Barber.”
After factoring in the drop of the lowest event points, Lamb now leads the points standings over Team MER’s Marc Miller by 14 points with 6 races remaining in the series.
Round 5 of the series is July 17-19 at Barber Motorsports Park near Birmingham, AL. Lamb will be competing in both Koni Challenge and MX-5 Cup at the event.

Lamb Looking to Repeat in MX-5 Cup at New Jersey
June 11, 2009 - ATLANTA, GA - Coming off a win at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, Todd Lamb is looking to add to his success at New Jersey Motorsports Park this weekend in Rounds 3 & 4 of the Playboy Mazda MX-5 Cup series.
Lamb’s Atlanta Motorsports Group teammates, Brett Smrz and Bob Michaelian, will also compete in the doubleheader in NJ.

“I’m excited about heading to New Jersey. I know the track pretty well and have led a lot of laps there in Koni Challenge. It’s a big opportunity to pick up a lot of points with the doubleheader, but it is still very early in the season so we have to focus on both the championship and individual wins,” says Todd.
Lamb, from Atlanta, GA, missed Round 1 of the series at his home track of Road Atlanta due to other racing commitments, but still has the opportunity to win the championship thanks to a rule that allows racers to drop their lowest finish from the points total. Taking that into consideration, Lamb actually holds the points lead over Round 1 winner Marc Miller by virtue of qualifying 1st, leading the most laps, and winning Round 2 at Mazda Raceway.
Todd adds, “this ride came together the week before Round 2 so we didn’t have the time to fine tune everything. The car was really good out of the box, but Jason Hoover and the rest of the AMG crew have been working on the Luna-C/Traqmate Mazda the last few weeks to get the most out of it for the rest of the season.”
HDNet will air the two races live in high-def Saturday and Sunday from 1-4pm. Races are also available a few weeks after each event on YouTube.
